Frequently-Asked Questions for Volunteers
What is Days of Caring?
Days of Caring is a volunteer program run through United Way of Greater Cleveland that connects companies, organizations and individuals with United Way partner agencies and provides them with a hands-on opportunity to make a difference in their community.
What are the Days of Caring projects?
Days of Caring projects involve people in hands-on activities at United Way partner agencies. Many companies use these projects to rally enthusiasm around their annual United Way campaigns. Days of Caring projects include simple repairs, landscaping, spring-cleaning, painting, and interaction with children and the elderly.
How do I get started?
You may contact Jessica D. Snyder, Special Events Coordinator, at 216/436-2123 or jdsnyder@uws.org and ask for help in getting started.
When do the projects have to be done?
Projects can be completed at any time over the next year, depending on the nature of the activity.
I can only participate for half a day. Can I do that?
Yes. We realize that occasionally there are people who can only participate for a morning or afternoon. We will work with these individuals to find a project that suits their needs.
Our department would like to participate, but we all can't leave at the same time.
Is there still a way we can participate?
Yes. Your department can split the day among its volunteers with half working the morning session
(from 8 a.m. to 12 noon) and the other half working an afternoon session (from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
Do you have to have specific skills to complete the projects?
No. Most projects only require a good attitude, a willing spirit and some elbow grease!
Do the projects have to be done on a specific day of the week?
No. United Way will work with the agency contact person to determine a date and time that works for both the volunteers and the agency.
Are all the materials provided for the projects?
Yes. In some cases, your volunteers may be able to provide additional materials to help the project work even better. Speak with your agency contact person and explore the possibilities.
Can people who don't donate to the United Way participate in Days of Caring projects?
Absolutely! For many people, this will be their first opportunity to become familiar with a local agency and United Way. Days of Caring projects can be fun and informative.
