Hello [member_name_first], and thank you for your support of United Way of Greater Cleveland.

Grandfather and grandchild Give the gift of caring
this Father's Day
Father's Day is this month, and what better way to honor Dad, Grandpa or another loved one than with a Tribute Gift to United Way of Greater Cleveland. It's the ideal expression of love and caring that extends to our entire community. Your United Way Tribute Gift will help ensure that those who are homeless this Father's Day will find shelter, that dads who are struggling to find jobs to provide for their families will receive guidance and that grandfathers who are confined to their homes will have a hot meal. Make your Father's Day Tribute Gift conveniently and securely online by June 14 and your honoree will receive a special card with your personal note in time for Father's Day. Thanks for helping us strengthen families throughout Greater Cleveland. Your help is what matters.

Days of Caring Volunteers Camp Ho Mita Koda gets a major facelift from 600 GE volunteers
More than 600 employees from GE Consumer & Industrial participated in one of the largest United Way Days of Caring in history. Camp Ho Mita Koda, a camp for children with diabetes, underwent a massive renovation from GE volunteers who built a new tractor barn, restored several original camp buildings, refurbished cabins and much more. Event chair Steve Briggs commented, "The Day of Caring is special to each and every one of us because it leaves such a long-lasting impression in our lives. It is an overwhelming feeling you get when you witness the impact of what 600 GE employees working together can achieve. The memories remain with us because we know what a tremendous gift our time can bring to these special camps." View photos from this event and get involved.
Did you know that United Way of Greater Cleveland invested $2 million in 18 child care programs serving 6,080 children in Cuyahoga County last year? An example of what this means to our community is that 129 children out of 142 kids in just one of the targeted neighborhoods were successfully prepared to learn in kindergarten.

Marc Byrnes What United Way means to me
"In 1954, a baby who was born here in Cleveland was adopted by very good parents with the help of a United Way agency. I was that baby...  "Six years ago, when my mother needed hospice care, another United Way agency was there to help my mother and our entire family...  "And one year ago, when an employee in our firm desperately needed help with her teenage son, Boys and Girls Clubs was there. Today, her son is on the right path because of that United Way agency.  That is what United Way of Greater Cleveland means to me." -- Marc Byrnes, Oswald Companies CEO and United Way of Greater Cleveland volunteer since 2002.

United Way's 211/First Call For Help receives high grades
United Way's 211/First Call For Help has received accreditation by the Alliance of Information & Referral Systems (AIRS), a national professional association that sets standards of excellence for information and referral agencies. AIRS has accredited only five other Ohio information and referral agencies in the last nine years and only one other in 2006. The standards for accreditation underpin and bind together every aspect of information and referral services and are the prime benchmark of quality. The 27 standards cover every facet of an information and referral operation including new standards on crisis intervention and disaster preparedness. "The accreditation means that we adhere to the Standards for Professional Information and Referral. The accreditors noted a number of 'best practices' and were impressed with our community collaborations and use of call data for planning and advocacy," said Stephen Wertheim, United Way's 211/First Call For Help director.
Cleveland Cavaliers Congratulations Cavaliers!
United Way of Greater Cleveland volunteers, donors and staff members congratulate the Cleveland Cavaliers for an exhilarating, fun and tremendous basketball season. Congratulations on 50 season wins, a very exciting first-round playoff victory and going the distance against the Detroit Pistons in the second round series. The Cavaliers are good for our community and United Way. The Cavaliers, along with the Browns and Indians, deserve our gratitude for their support of United Way of Greater Cleveland all year long. Among their generous donations are autographed sports items and experiences for the Sports Auction in November, United Way nights at Jacobs Field and Quicken Loans Arena throughout the year and the Celebrity Golf Tournament with the Browns, September 12 at Hemlock Springs Golf Club in Geneva.
Pacesetters: On your mark...get set...go! This year's Pacesetter kick-off is Wednesday, June 14, from 8 to 9:30 am at the Cleveland Sight Center. Pacesetters are the first runners coming out of the blocks, setting the pace for the overall United Way campaign and completing their campaigns before most have even begun. To date, 96 companies and organizations have joined the Pacesetter team. You can still join the race...just drop us a line. Learn more about running a Pacesetter campaign.
Check community-wide needs for the greatest impact on our community
By designating Community-Wide Needs with your pledge, you authorize our trained volunteers to decide how your donations, and those of countless others, can target the greatest needs of our community. It might be to deliver meals to homebound seniors, train daycare providers to provide the best possible educational preparation for children or any of the nearly 180 programs provided by our community partners, or initiatives of the Community Vision Council. Here is how to pledge confidentially online.
