Campaign Kick-Off and Pancake Flip
Flapjacks on the Square? Yes, when United Way of Greater Cleveland kicks off its 2006 campaign on Public Square Thursday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Local celebrities and business leaders will flip pancakes to support our community through United Way. At 8 a.m., Henry L. Meyer III, United Way Board Chairman and KeyCorp Chairman and CEO, will join United Way Campaign Co-Chairs Robert H. Rawson, Jr., Partner-In-Charge, Jones Day Cleveland office, and Robert J. King, Jr., Managing Partner, Western Reserve Partners LLC, to announce the 2006 United Way Campaign goal. A breakfast of pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee is only $5. WTAM 1100's Wills and Coleman radio show will broadcast live from the Square, you'll get a sneak peak at the 2006 Sports Auction, and you can try the WDOK Fifth Third Bank Mega Money Machine for a chance to win great prizes. Celebrity Golf Tournament Celebrity Golf Tournament: Go for the Green September 12
Cleveland Browns alumni go for the green -- the putting green, that is -- at United Way's Ninth Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Hemlock Springs Golf Club in Geneva. The tournament begins with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a celebrity long drive contest and 18 holes of golf for fivesomes that include a Browns alumnus. Hemlock Springs Golf Club, which has donated the use of its links for this event since 1998, is a championship-layout golf course and past host to the U.S. Amateur Qualifier. The day concludes with wine, dinner and an auction at Ferrante Winery and Ristorante. Grand Prix Helmet for Auction Autographed Helmets Offer Fans a Piece of Grand Prix History
Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes and the Grand Prix of Cleveland are offering 14 custom-painted racing helmets autographed by top Champ Car drivers and racing legend Bobby Rahal for auction. Proceeds benefit United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. Bid to own a one-of-a-kind piece of history from the 2006 Grand Prix of Cleveland presented by U.S. Bank. The helmets will be sold in separate auctions, featured each month in What Matters, from September 2006 through July 2007. Rope course at Camp Ho Mita Koda Youth Camp Merges with Diabetes Association
The Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland (DAGC), a United Way partner agency, has merged with Camp Ho Mita Koda, one of the nation's oldest diabetes camping organizations. The camp, located in Newbury (Geauga County), will operate as a subsidiary of DAGC, enabling both organizations to increase services in Northeast Ohio for children and teenagers with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Camp Ho Mita Koda annually serves more than 300 children with diabetes, offering camp and year-round youth programs. For the rest of the story, click here.
Did you know that United Way of Greater Cleveland funded programs last year that helped 1,746 individuals who were victims of floods, tornados and fire, providing immediate aid, including food, shelter, clothing and financial assistance.
