(Cleveland, Ohio) February 24, 2003
Kathleen Gregorio Vorobel has been named Director of Fund Raising for Greater Cleveland's United Way Services, returning to the same organization where she began her development career as a fund-raising associate more than 20 years ago. She joined the United Way leadership team this month (Feb. 24).
Most recently Vorobel headed her own consulting firm, KGV Development Corp., retaining among her clients the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she had served as the chief development officer for nearly five years. At the Institute of Music she formalized the planned giving program and doubled the numbers of planned giving participants.
She came to the Institute of Music from Ursuline College, where she served as the Director of Development for more than three years, having been recruited from United Way.
"Kathy's career represents a steady progression of successes in development work with an emphasis on strategic planning initiatives within fund raising," said K. Michael Benz, president and chief executive officer. "In addition to strengthening traditional workplace campaigns and cultivating new business, we look forward to increasing attention on planned giving and legacy opportunities where individuals can make lasting contributions to their community through United Way."
During her 12 years at United Way, Vorobel received a series of promotions to be named Senior Associate Campaign Director in January 1990. She had served as a member of the management team that raised more than $50 million in three consecutive campaigns.
Vorobel is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and she has served on the board of trustees of the Alta Social Settlement House, a member of the Neighborhood Centers Assn., a United Way partner agency. Vorobel received a B.A. in Communications from Cleveland State University, where she was on the Dean's List, and subsequently has completed enhanced development training through workshops from the National Academy of Voluntarism, the Gonser Gerber Tinker Stuhr Workshops and Case Western Reserve University, Weatherhead School of Management's Managerial Excellence Program and several planned giving workshops.
Kathy and her husband, John Jr., have three children and reside in South Euclid.
