KeyBank to rock Cleveland with sought-after incentives

    (Cleveland, Ohio) October 8, 2003
Limited-Edition United Way GuitarMania Fender miniatures could be windfall for community
Cleveland rocks, and KeyBank will be making sure of that. Starting October 15, KeyBank will offer United Way GuitarMania® Fender Stratocaster® Miniatures, free while supplies last, to customers opening select personal or business checking accounts at KeyCenters (branches) throughout its Greater Cleveland and Eastern Ohio districts.

KeyBank recently purchased 10,000 of the new limited-edition 10-inch ceramic figurines, six of 16 available miniatures, with a significant contribution from the sale of each guitar going to United Way. Replicas of the 10-ft. tall guitars that graced Cleveland streets during GuitarMania 2002, each vibrantly colored GuitarMania Fender Miniature available at Key comes with its own guitar stand and case -- in all, a $25 average retail value.

Distribution of the guitars is exclusive to Key among area banks, something KeyBank District President Elizabeth Oliver hopes will stir up a little notoriety within the bank's flagship district and help Key gain an edge.

"We've had our ties on too tight in Cleveland over the last few years, and that's changing fast as we approach the market with new vigor," says Oliver of Key. "Call it quirky, unique or just plain refreshing, but who could resist this opportunity to forgo coolers, blankets and toasters, among other traditional incentives? What a fun way to invite people across Northeast Ohio to bank with Key, while benefiting our community."

With the rollout of the first 16 GuitarMania Fender Miniatures, United Way Services of Cleveland is looking for a largely successful national promotion that its President and CEO K. Michael Benz also anticipates will be a hit with residents throughout Northeast Ohio, with Key's support.

"Cleveland is well represented all over the country and, in some cases, internationally," says Benz of the promotion. "Sale of these guitars supports charities, celebrates our local artists and distinguishes Cleveland for its rock roots and renowned Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

"Key is the leader in employee and corporate giving in the greater Cleveland United Way campaign. Its investment in the guitars will enhance local exposure and, we hope, generate some excitement in the market and pride in our region. Key has ordered an additional 2,400 guitars for its employees to purchase as the holidays approach. That's just terrific."

Look for KeyBank's ad in the Plain Dealer on Wednesday, October 15 for more details about the guitar incentives.

    America's Pastime
Sponsor: Cuyahoga Community College, East Campus
    Artist: Victoria Heitman*
