(Cleveland, Ohio) August 11, 2005
United Way of Greater Cleveland begins its campaign season on the Southwest Quadrant of Public Square Thursday, September 1, 2005. From 7:00 to 10:30 am celebrities from the major local television networks, newspapers and magazines will come together with business leaders to flip pancakes for our community. At 8 a.m. Alexander "Sandy" Cutler, United Way Board Chairman and Eaton Corporation Chairman and CEO will join Henry Meyer III, the 2005 United Way Campaign Chairman and KeyCorp Chairman and CEO as Mr. Meyer announces the 2005 United Way Campaign Goal.
"This year is more important than ever for Clevelanders to help those in need. United Way is one vital way by which Clevelanders can reach our entire community." Mr. Meyer says as he reflects on the obligations and expectations he has set for this year's campaign. "Clevelanders have proven that when they see resources being effectively and efficiently spent to help people in their own community, they are among the most generous people in the world. As we come out of this recession, more and more demands are being placed on programs United Way supports."
Over the course of the morning it is anticipated that over 7500 pancakes will be prepared and over 2500 breakfasts will be served. A breakfast of pancakes, sausages, orange juice and coffee is only $5.00. Deliveries can be made to downtown locations (minimum order 5 breakfasts, maximum 15) by faxing back a downloadable form (available at uws.org/news/pancakeflip/flipfax.pdf) or by calling 216-436-2121 by 4 pm on Wednesday August 31.
