Going for the green: Cleveland Browns alumni and corporate teams to play at United Way's Ninth Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on September 12
August 8, 2006 (Cleveland, Ohio)
Join Cleveland Browns alumni when they go for the green-putting green, that is-at United Way's Ninth Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, September 12, at Hemlock Springs Golf Club in Geneva, Ohio. The tournament, presented by the Cleveland Browns and Continental Airlines and hosted by Hemlock Springs Golf Club, contributes major support for United Way of Greater Cleveland's nearly 180 programs provided by more than 130 partner agencies.
The tournament begins with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a celebrity long drive contest and 18 holes of golf for fivesomes that include a Browns alumnus. Hemlock Springs Golf Club, which has donated the use of its links for this event since 1998, is a championship-layout golf course and past host to the U.S. Amateur Qualifier. The day concludes with dinner and an auction at Ferrante Winery and Ristorante in Geneva.
"United Way of Greater Cleveland thanks the Cleveland Browns, Continental Airlines, Hemlock Springs Golf Club and all of the participants for their support of this important event," said K. Michael Benz, United Way President and CEO. "The tournament brings all of us together to have fun, but more important, to help Greater Clevelanders."
Some of the Cleveland Browns alumni playing this beautiful course include Tournament Committee Co-Chair Reggie Rucker, Kevin Mack, Webster Slaughter, Eric Metcalf, Ernie Kellerman, Felix Wright, Cody Risien and Leroy Hoard.
Corporate sponsors this year also include Credit First National Association, The Illuminating Company - A FirstEnergy Company, The Plain Dealer, Forest City Enterprises, Inc., Jones Day, Planned Financial Services, UPS, Verizon Wireless and Central Cadillac-Hummer.
United Way serves 400,000 residents annually in Cuyahoga County. It is the community's largest funder of health and human service programs and is committed to improving the quality of life for all Greater Clevelanders.
