United Way 2006 Campaign Goal is $43.6 Million

      September 7, 2006 (Cleveland, Ohio)
Amid flapjacks and flippers on Public Square, United Way of Greater Cleveland Campaign Co-Chairs Robert H. Rawson, Jr., Partner-In-Charge, Jones Day Cleveland office, and Robert J. King, Jr., Managing Partner, Western Reserve Partners LLC, announced the 2006 United Way Campaign Goal as $43.6 million at the annual United Way Campaign Kick-Off and Pancake Flip.

"We are here today to bring attention to the great need in our community for health and human services, and remind you that through United Way, a safety net of services is there for all of us," Rawson said.

"Today and every day, 130 United Way agencies deliver services to clients, helping nearly 400,000 Greater Cleveland residents every year. We are grateful to all the donors who have supported United Way, and we are hopeful that they will again join us in this campaign," said King. "The need is there, we all are responsible, and through United Way, we can make a difference in our community."

Throughout the morning, local celebrities and business leaders flipped pancakes on large outdoor grills to provide the breakfasts for $5 served under huge tents on Public Square. Also, pancake deliveries were available to downtown offices. This year, UPS donated their drivers to deliver the pancakes in support of United Way. More than 1,900 breakfasts were served.

The Warrensville Heights High School Drum Line provided the drum roll leading up to the goal announcement and continued entertaining the crowd all morning. WTAM 1100's Wills and Coleman radio show broadcasted live from the United Way Campaign Kick-Off and Pancake Flip. The WDOK/ Fifth Third Bank Mega Money Machine was there and Cleveland Indians Mascot Slider paid a visit.

      K. Michael Benz, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Cleveland, thanked the sponsors and friends who made the event possible, including Jones Day, Northern Haserot, Clear Channel and WTAM, cleveland.com, Verizon Wireless, UPS, Foote Printing, the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel, United Way volunteers, Warrensville Heights High School Drum Line, WDOK and Fifth Third Bank.
