GuitarManiaŽ Art Exhibit features all approved designs

      January 9, 2007 (Cleveland, Ohio)
United Way of Greater Cleveland GuitarManiaŽ with the support of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum invites the public to a reception and art exhibit that will feature all the approved guitar designs on Thursday, January 25, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Artist Review Today, an art gallery in the Galleria at East 9th Street and St. Clair. The 150 designs will remain on public display from January 25 through February 22.

"This exhibit offers the opportunity for our community members to preview the beautiful art our local artists have submitted for consideration by sponsors to become guitars," said Mike Benz, United Way of Greater Cleveland CEO and President. "The designs that are on display will become the oversize FenderŽ StratocasterŽ guitars that will decorate our city throughout the summer."

GuitarMania is Cleveland's rockin' public art project. It consists of oversize FenderŽ StratocasterŽ guitars that are creatively transformed into works of art by local artists and national celebrities and displayed on the city streets for residents and visitors to enjoy from June through fall 2007. At the end of the display period the guitars are auctioned at a gala event at the Rock Hall, unless the corporate sponsors buy back their guitars for permanent display at their company.

This is the third Cleveland GuitarMania. The previous two events raised over $1.6 million dollars benefiting United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's education fund.

SuperSponsors Eaton Corporation and KeyBank are joined by project sponsors, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, Clear Channel, Cleveland Magazine, cleveland.com, Continental Airlines, Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, The Plain Dealer, Sherwin-Williams and Turner Construction.

To date 58 guitar sponsors have committed to the project including seven celebrity guitars from Doors guitarist Robby Krieger; NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Michael Waltrip and Rusty Wallace; NASCAR artist Sam Bass; and Beatles Artist Shannon.

Guitar sponsorships are available for $7,500, which includes a permanent plaque on the guitar recognizing the sponsor and the artist, a half-page ad in the special supplement to The Plain Dealer, a full-page ad on GuitarMania's Web site at cleveland.com/guitarmania, a quarter-page ad in a special publication in Cleveland Magazine and regionally in Ohio Magazine, and two tickets to the live auction.
