It's All Guitars! On Display at County Libraries
July 2, 2007 (Cleveland, Ohio)
Twenty-seven genuine FenderŽ StratocasterŽ guitars transformed into works of art by local area high school and art school students are now on display at 25 Cuyahoga County Public Library branches until July 20. It's all Guitars! is a special project of United Way's GuitarManiaŽ that introduces public art, guitars and community involvement to art students throughout Greater Cleveland by inviting them to artistically transform real FenderŽ StratocasterŽ guitars just like the oversize, 9-foot-tall GuitarMania guitars currently on display on city streets. More than 60 students painted, sculpted and decorated the guitars with designs that have been submitted by their art instructors and accepted by GuitarMania's artist review panel. Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, a leading sponsor of GuitarMania, donated the guitars for this art-oriented, community service youth project.
After the public display period at the library branches, the guitars will be auctioned at the House of Blues on July 28, with proceeds to benefit United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's education programs. Auction admission is $10 and doors open at 1 p.m. To reserve auction event tickets, RSVP to Jessica Snyder at 216-436-2123 or jdsnyder@uws.org. The guitars are unique works of art that can be displayed in your home or plugged in and played.
The guitars are on display at Cuyahoga County Library branches listed on page 2 of this release through July 18. For more information about It's all Guitars!, visit http://www.cleveland.com/guitarmania/index.ssf?/guitarmania/itsallguitars.html.
