Spotlight on Business Market Group II
The success of the United Way campaign depends largely on the individual and collective efforts of employees who work at financial institutions, manufacturing plants, the media, real estate and service industries. Avery Dennison, a manufacturer of labels for automotive and industrial applications, is one of this year's success stories.

Employee Campaign Manager Laszlo Buda recognized that he would have to apply his discipline as a Six Sigma Black Belt to run an effective United Way campaign at Avery Dennison's Industrial and Automotive Products Division plant in Strongsville. While Laz used a structured, data-driven approach to educate fellow employees on the benefits of United Way, he also wanted employees to see firsthand how their contributions work by participating in a Day of Caring at the Boy Scouts of America grounds in Cleveland. But Laz was also convinced that he needed to make the campaign much easier from an administrative and donor standpoint and he knew he could do this effectively by utilizing United Way's E-Way online pledging system.

The results were simply extraordinary. Employee pledges to Avery Dennison's E-Way campaign increased by nearly 74 percent with the added bonus of a company match on all non-Leadership gifts at 50 cents on the dollar. Just as impressive is the increase in participation by employees in the pledge campaign from 3 percent to 16 percent, as well as special events such as "RaffleMania" in which employees bid on nearly $2,500 worth of gift certificates and items generously donated by area businesses.
